Yes, this is a photo-- my scanner washes all the color out of her fabric.
Anyway, this is my Voodle for ~MaddeningTruth's contest! Her name is Distress, and this is her backstory. (It's a bit long: I write involved backstories.) Distress was originally a handmade stuffed doll with curly blonde hair, a simple red dress and a wide smile. Distress was dearly loved by her original owner, who played with her during her entire childhood after receiving her as a birthday gift when she was 5. Unfortunately, the child unavoidably grew older, and put Distress away in storage with all her other old toys. Distress and her fellow toys spent almost two decades in solitude. They reminisced on their brighter days until they couldn't remember the brighter days anymore. Eventually they all grew old and tired, surrendering to the silent fate that had befallen them... when suddenly, they were taken out of the box. Their original owner was now married with a daughter of her own. Now, the woman was relinquishing her old plush playmates to this little girl. Distress and the others couldn't have been happier... at first. As fate would have it, this little lass wasn't interested in old stuffed dolls and animals. She only wanted to play with the new plastic dolls of her generation, leaving the hand-me-down toys to gather dust in her room. They sat at their new post for another decade. Every once in a while the girl would pick them up to move them around, even play with them for a little while, but it never lasted. She just didn't love them as her mother had. When the girl reached her teenage years, the old toys were put back in storage. A few were even thrown away, now too worn-down and beat-up to go on... but Distress remained, with her tattered dress and tangled hair. Ten more years dragged by, and suddenly the box was re-opened... to a dingy outside world. Before they could take in their frightening new surroundings, the box was turned upside-down and Distress found herself lying in a dumpster. She didn't stay there long. A few years after her life as a doll came to a final halt, Distress was reborn as a Voodle. 60 years after her original 'birth,' she could no longer remember her name... and it was then that she took the name "Distress," after the overwhelming sense of loss and loneliness that she felt. Distress has only one friend, a fellow Voodle named Viktor. He had a short life, but a very happy one, and is shocked that Distress could have lived so long without much love. Distress, despite her age, looks much younger. This is because her look as a Voodle reflects her original appearance. Her body consists of red velvet and tan-colored microsuede. In a nutshell, this means that if you hugged her, you would not want to let go. XD Distress also wears a large gift tag emblazoned with a broken heart, which goes without explanation. She prefers to be alone, as she does not interact well with others. This is because she's always depressed and doesn't have the heart to even talk most of the time. However, she appreciates what company she does have, even if they do nothing but stand by her when she's feeling lonely. Distress also likes slow jazz and cheesecake. The intrinsic depressingness aside, though, this design is fantastic. I think I'm about ready to just concede, which is fine, since I'm not really in it for the contest anyhow. XD

Viktor has a rather happy backstory (with a sad ending), actually. I'll draw him tomorrow.
Thank you. ^^ I sketched her up the day the contest was announced, to be honest... sat down today and drew up an actual ref, just in time for the deadline. XD
I'm not really in it for winning either-- I just love these characters, and I love contests, aha.
Yeah, I was afraid people would think I had died.
I'm finally getting back into the swing of drawing... who knows, if I'm ambitious enough, I might actually finish my P-Maren refs tomorrow! XD
^_^ Cool-cool. I figured you had probably done something akin to that. It's your way, I suppose. And yes, it does indeed work out well.

Wow, just wow i knew to expect something good from you but nothing like this ever crossed my mind and with this, i can beggin the judging AH HA!
I want to say one thing, by no means just abbadon any of this when this copnstet is over these all should be character for life, their all far too rich to be reconciled to this alone, ps. I'll mention this note a the next journal.
Where to strt, well firstly, the backstory had me in tears almost, it's so beatuifully written, and her design is nothing short of magnificent and well the fact of the matter is, i sure wouldn't let g if she needed a hug
You've really truely out done your self, and this will be one hard contest to judge
Have i got my work cut out for me.
